Description:
Mazul is a residential project located in Santa Elena el Tule, one of the most paradisiacal beaches in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This development blends seamlessly with the surrounding nature, in a unique environment that promotes tranquility, respect, and freedom. With the majestic Pacific Ocean in front of it and the imposing rock formations of the Sierra Madre del Sur surrounding it, Mazul is strategically situated on the coast of Oaxaca, 800 km south of Mexico City and 290 km from the state capital, Oaxaca. This paradise belongs to the municipality of Santa María Tonameca.
Architecture:
Mazul, designed by Bernardo Quinzaños of CCA, has been meticulously crafted to forge an intimate connection between the interior and exterior, bridging the realms of the constructed and the natural, while fostering a sense of community among its residents. The project comprises two primary parts, one dedicated to service and the other of a public nature, both thoughtfully open to their surrounding environment. Strategically placed openings in the facades facilitate the flow of fresh air throughout the spaces, and the positioning of the pool contributes to tempering the air entering the interior. The choice of materials, including concrete and wood, draws inspiration from the local environment, with concrete reminiscent of the natural rocks found in the region and wood offering a warm and inviting ambiance. Furthermore, generous overhangs shield the interior from the sun, creating ample shaded and cool areas throughout the residence.
The Center for Architectural Collaboration (CCA) is an architecture firm based in Mexico City, founded in 2008 by Bernardo Quinzaños Oria. This independent office is dedicated to research, conceptualization, and development of architectural and urban projects with a focus on generating a positive impact on the context and society. CCA operates with an interdisciplinary structure that fosters the knowledge, talent, and creativity of its collaborators, promoting an inclusive, collaborative, and interdisciplinary work system.
Bernardo Quinzaños Oria, a graduate in Architecture and Urbanism from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 2007, currently leads CCA as the CEO. In addition to his career in architecture, he has participated in various artistic exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad and has undertaken projects related to architecture, sustainability, and technology.
En 2016, architect Santiago Vélez joined the CCA team as a partner and Director of Construction. Santiago is a graduate of the Architecture and Urbanism program at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and he earned a Master's degree in Engineering with a specialization in Construction Management from the same institution in 2017.
